16 Jun Tech In Motion
For those of you who were able to attend Meetup’s Tech In Motion event hosted on June 11 at Quorum, you know the energy that I am about to describe. The panel featured Lucinda Duncalfe, Founder of RealFoodWorks, Patrick FitzGerald, Managing Director for DreamIt Venture’s Philadelphia Program, and Keith Fitzgerald, CTO of PeopleLinx.
Everyone in the room was anxious to hear about all the great advances happening right now in the Philly Tech community.
So what did these rock star entrepreneurs and tech enthusiasts have to say about it?
When asked, Why Philadelphia (over the Valley and other major cities ) Lucinda responded by illuminating how Philly “plays nice”. There is a sense of camaraderie and respect within the entrepreneurial community in Philly. Entrepreneurs here support each other and don’t steal one another’s clients or employees, unlike the somewhat discorded mentality in Silicon Valley.
The panel also noted that although Philly entrepreneurs do have that vivacious under-dog spirit that propels them, the achievements of Philly’s tech scene is thanks to more than just the entrepreneurs themselves. Mayor Nutter, City Council and Philly’s university students have also played a hand in the game. The immense support and cooperation from the City is genuinely appreciated, along with the continued effort to make doing business easier in a city like Philadelphia. The panelists were also quick to mention the success of interns from local universities like UPenn and Drexel.
All in all, the panel, the audience and the event itself was just a periscope view into the vitality that is driving Philly’s tech scene to hit new milestones. It’s panels and panelists like Lucinda Duncalfe, Patrick FitzGerald, and Keith Fitzgerald that keep the Philly tech initiative alive and flowing.
